Take a Haiku

Earlier Today

we took a Haiku...(Hike? Oooooo)

in the great outdoors...

Fresh Air! Breathe deeply.
Sights, sounds, fragrances abound.
O! Colorado.
Quiet clouds push by.
Beyond, the constant azure
watches all below.

Pungent aroma
Juniper's curled paper bark
Crisp air sharp with sage

Twittering sparrows
warn us off. We're too close.
They must be nesting.

Hot summer day

Surprised grasshoppers startle
Leaping and clacking

Industrious ant
your gravelly hill is safe
protected by sage

Buzzing fly begone.
Persistent pest swoops and dives

It lands, it bites. OUCH.

Nature at her best
Plenty pebbles underfoot
Glad I wore my boots

Walking faster now
Two hour hikes wear me out
Keep watching the gro
und

Gullywashes here.
Not a favorite pathway.
Up and down gets old.

Warning rattle sound!
A prairie rattler slithers
Here we go again!

Hot sun. Salty sweat.
Walking...No, meandering.

Where'd we park the car?

Hot feet? So, what's new?
Hold on hips, knees don't fail me.
We must be near.

Yay, the car is there.
My GPS points the way.
Battery still good.

The Subaru waits.
Another hike ends safely.
Turn on the AC.
